If you live in an area where it might not be cost effective to have Russ in the studio for your recording, you can still have him on your record via the file transfer method. Russ has the studios at R.M.I. Music Productions available at all times. This is a world-class, state of the art recording facility. You will have the same quality drum, loop and/or percussion tracks created for your songs in this facility like other projects that Russ has done for several multi-platinum artists such as Hilary Duff, Nelly Furtado, Tina Turner and Cher. also, major movie soundtracks like Chicken Little, Resident Evil Apocolypse and Lakeview Terrace have been recorded here, just to name a few. We have executed over 70 albums and 25 major movies and T.V. soundtracks with this system and it works flawlessly.
Formats:
You create your basic tracks in one of three ways. R.M.I. has the TDM version of Pro-Tools TDM 6.4.1 ( to 24bit/48K) and Logic studio Pro. If you are using one of these formats you can simply save your sessions and include the basic audio files. If you are using another recording format please create all of your basic tracks starting at bar 1.1.1.1. in .AIF , .SD2 or .WAV formats. We will import your files into Pro-Tools and track the drums/percussion. All of these tracks will then be saved starting at bar 1.1.1.1 and when you drop them into your sessions they will line up exactly. Please provide tempo information. R.M.I. as of 1/09 is not using HD formats (96 or 192K) for file transfer sessions (mostly due to file sizes). Once you have your basic tracks saved into one of these formats you can Fed-Ex Mac formatted CD-ROM or DVD-ROM to R.M.I. or upload via FTP to our web-site or I-DISK. Upon execution of the session, you will receive instructions on how to upload and download you files via FTP. Drum kit tracks are recorded standard as 15 tracks of multi-track files.

Mic options:
Drums are tracked with API312 Mic Pre-Amps to API Original 550a and 560a(Rooms) EQ's. We do not track with signal processing, unless requested (we recommend certain room compression for certain styles- using Emperical Labs Distressors).
Russ Miller uses Shure Brothers microphones exclusively. The default set-up for drum mics are as follows:
Kick drum- Shure Beta 52A and Yamaha SKRM100 Russ Miller Subkick
Snare drum - Shure Sm57 external May mounted Shure XL57 internal
Hi-Hat - Shure SM81
Toms- Shure KSM27
Overheads - Shure KSM44
Rooms -Shure KSM44 (placed Approx. 8 feet away)
Additional mic requests and or positioning are available upon request. Rental mics are available at an additional charge.
Proofs:
Before the execution of each session Russ will need to hear the basic tracks and give his approval for recording on, as well as, his schedule for recording. This can be done via e-mail, FTP or by forwarding a audio CD or CD-ROM. Most often, a 2-track mix of the basic tracks will be fine. Likewise, you will be able to proof/approve your tracks via 2-track MP3 bounce uploads via e-mail or the web-site. You can also request 2-track proof mixes via Fed-Ex. We will not send full band-with multi-tracks for proofing for file size and final payment reasons.
Payment:
The cost for doing file transfer sessions remains relatively consistent. Russ' fee for recording is per track.
(Single tracks have FTP/Disc 2-track proofing rights or 4 different approach takes maximum)
There are also full day rates available. (8 track maximum)
(Full day sessions include 2 approach versions with only 2-track proofing capabilities)
Sound design and Loop sessions (8 bar maximum) rates are available as well.

This amounts include all studio costs, engineering fees, access to R.M.I. percussion, drum kit, mic inventories and disc/back-up costs. Additional requests for mics (Nuemann, Telefunken, etc.) and mic pre amps (Neve 1073, 1084, etc) are an additional cost. Please refer to the R.M.I. page under products at www.russmiller.com for default gear information.
You save a tremendous amount of money utilizing these services. The standard costs for Drum sessions can reach the multi thousands (Russ fee + Engineer + studio + cartage + rentals). Using R.M.I. Studios for Russ' sessions can save you thousands!
Payments are made as follows:
Russ Miller is sent 2-track rough mix of basic tracks. Russ approves tracks and gives his schedule for recording the sessions. Artist is sent agreement for sessions with payment amounts, use intentions, deadline, special micing and/or mic pre needs (rental quotes must be approved) and any other special notes for track. The agreement is returned by artist with a 50% deposit of fees and full rental amounts if any. This payment can be made via money order, cashiers check, personal check (sessions will be held after the check has cleared through R.M.I.'s bank) or credit card through order form provided at www.russmiller.com. You select the correct dollar "Units" on the credit card order form. Choose a dollar amount "Unit" and then select the proper quantity to arrive at your down payment. The same process can be used at anytime during the recording process to pay for expenses. After the sessions, R.M.I. will provide 2-track proofs of each take for approval by the artist. These can be downloaded via FTP , e-mailed (For the quickest response) or shipped via Fed-Ex. After the artist approval, the balance is paid via above mentioned payment methods and the full bandwith multi-tracks are either uploaded to FTP or hard copies sent via Fed-Ex on DVD-R. One four minute song is approx. 400Mb of drum tracks. Larger sessions can be sent via Hard Drives and shipped to R.M.I.to be returned with final tracks, in accordance of artist's needs. Credits and notes will be shipped with the final tracks.
Releases:
Russ will sign general releases for the recorded tracks. This release can be generated by you or standard issue from R.M.I. The tracks are to be used for the given production only. Loops or samples of these tracks can be used for other recordings if agreed to and released by Russ Miller and/or R.M.I. Music Productions Inc. Credit for recordings and sample/loops must be given for all versions of the recordings on product liner notes.
